Official redress

The real redress, in order

Four steps, to be climbed in this order: your dated statement arms all the others.

Law as verified onJuly 29, 2026

File EU 2011/83

  1. The seller, in writing, with your dated statement

Before the fourteen days run out

Withdrawal is addressed to the trader: the directive's model form, or any unambiguous statement. Give the order number and the delivery date, then keep the acknowledgment of receipt and the dispatch receipt: those are the two documents that start the clocks.

Returns and refunds (Your Europe, European Union)

  2. The European Consumer Centre in your country

    At any time

The official page of the Union says it: if you have a problem cancelling a contract or getting a refund in another EU country, the European Consumer Centre in your country can help.

    European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net)

  3. Consumer dispute resolution

    If the seller refuses

If the direct exchange fails, the official page of the Union describes the consumer dispute resolution routes, amicable then judicial, and points to the competent bodies in each country.

  4. The European Small Claims Procedure

    Last

For a cross-border claim, the written European procedure exists, and the regulation establishing it states in black and white that representation by a lawyer or another legal professional is not mandatory.

Limitation periods and the rules of procedure before a national court are not covered here: this site presents only the European baseline common to the twenty-seven. A directive sets a minimum: your national law may provide better, never less.
